Promed IRT-80 – contactless infrared forehead thermometer
The Promed IRT-80 is a contactless infrared forehead thermometer for measuring body temperature as well as object and surface temperatures. Measurement takes seconds from a distance of 3–5 cm, and a coloured backlight shows an elevated temperature at a glance.
Your benefits at a glance
- Contactless measurement: hygienic forehead measurement from a distance of 3–5 cm, even on sleeping children.
- Fever indicator: a green backlight (up to 37.4 °C) or red backlight (from 37.5 °C) shows an elevated temperature at a glance.
- Two measuring modes: body temperature (32–43 °C, ±0.2 °C) and object temperature (2–99 °C, ±1.0 °C).
- 35 memory slots: recall earlier measurements and track the temperature trend.
- Economical to run: 2× AAA batteries for over 3,000 measurements, automatic shut-off after 10 seconds.
Areas of use – who is the IRT-80 suitable for?
The Promed IRT-80 is ideal for quick, contactless temperature measurement in everyday life:
- Families with children: quick fever measurement without unpleasant contact.
- Babies and toddlers: measurement from a distance, also possible while asleep, without waking the child.
- Object and surface temperatures: additionally usable for baby bottles, bath water or other surfaces in the household (object mode, 2–99 °C).
- Private households in general: easy handling for all age groups in forehead mode.
Using it is this easy
- Step 1 – insert batteries: insert 2× AAA batteries, making sure the polarity is correct.
- Step 2 – prepare: do not bathe or exercise for at least 30 minutes before measuring and let the device adjust to room temperature; if necessary, clear the forehead of sweat or cosmetics.
- Step 3 – measure: point the thermometer at the centre of the forehead, keep a distance of 3–5 cm without touching the skin, and press the measuring button.
- Step 4 – read the result: read the value on the display; the backlight shows green (up to 37.4 °C) or red (from 37.5 °C). Using the memory button, up to 35 earlier measurements can be recalled.

Care and safety instructions
Please read the instruction manual carefully before first use.
- Measured values do not replace a medical diagnosis – contact a doctor in case of fever or unusual values.
- Do not measure immediately after physical exertion, after bathing or in a very warm or cold environment.
- Keep a measuring distance of 3–5 cm; keep the sensor clean and undamaged, clean it with a microfibre cloth.
- Let the device adjust to the ambient temperature before use (operation at 10–40 °C).
- Keep batteries out of the reach of children; the device is not a toy.
- Avoid hair, sweat or scars on the forehead, as these can distort the measured value.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Does a red light mean fever?
The backlight switches to red from a temperature of 37.5 °C; up to 37.4 °C it stays green. The result is an indication of an elevated temperature – the diagnosis remains a matter for the doctor.
Can I also measure bath water or baby food?
Yes. In object mode the IRT-80 measures surface temperatures in the range of 2–99 °C with an accuracy of ±1.0 °C.
What do the displays “H” or “L” on the screen mean?
“H” appears for a measured value above 43 °C, “L” for a value below 32 °C – the measured value is therefore outside the body measuring range.
How long do the batteries last?
2× AAA batteries are enough for more than 3,000 measurements. When the battery is low, a warning symbol appears on the display.
What age is the device suitable for?
According to the instruction manual, forehead mode can be used on people of all age groups – from babies to adults.
What warranty does Promed offer?
Promed grants a manufacturer's warranty of 24 months from the date of purchase on the IRT-80.
What should be observed when measuring to get an accurate value?
Keep the recommended distance of 3–5 cm, do not touch the forehead and remove hair, sweat or cosmetic residues beforehand. Do not measure immediately after bathing or after physical exertion, as this can distort the result.
