Frequently asked questions (FAQ) What sets the Promed the file 4040 apart from the Promed 4030-SX2? The 4040 is the current premium model: a fully brushless motor (handpiece AND suction motor – significantly more durable and quieter), a higher maximum speed (40,000 instead of 30,000 RPM), a 4.3" colour touch display with memory instead of a membrane keypad, six-stage dust extraction (Eco–Max) and disposable dust bags for greater hygiene. If you have a high-volume salon or special hygiene requirements, the 4040 is the right choice. For most salons, the Promed 4030-SX2 (art. 204036) offers the ideal balance of performance and price. Which bits / burrs fit the Promed the file 4040? The 4040 has the standard 2.35 mm collet chuck (dental size, shank length 28–36 mm) and is compatible with the entire Promed bit range: titanium bits with gold head (e.g. art. 198551), carbide bits (HM), sapphire burrs, ceramic burrs and diamond bits. The advantage with the 4040: the automatic collet chuck closes by itself when rotating – quick bit changes without a separate step. Only use oversized bits (head ø above standard, max. 12 mm) up to 10,000 RPM. What does "brushless motor" mean and why is it important? A brushless motor works without mechanical carbon brushes. Advantages: significantly longer service life (no brushes that wear out), less vibration, lower noise and less heat generation. For daily salon use over several hours, this is a noticeable advantage in comfort and durability. How does the memory function work? You can save your favourite speeds directly on the touch display (e.g. a low one for gentle polishing, a medium one for modelling, a high one for fast removal). With one touch, you jump straight to the saved setting – ideal when switching between different work steps. What is the advantage of disposable dust bags? Disposable dust bags are disposed of completely – you do not come into contact with the collected dust. This increases hygiene and reduces the risk of allergies. Changing takes seconds: open the filter chamber door, remove the old bag, insert a new one. Is there a replacement handpiece? Yes, the matching replacement handpiece is the Promed HS for 4040 (art. 204007). This keeps your device in service for years, even after intensive use. Can I use the 4040 internationally? Yes, the power supply works with 110–230 V AC, 50/60 Hz and can therefore be used worldwide. The scope of delivery includes the power cable for the EU market. What warranty does Promed offer on the 4040? Promed grants a manufacturer's warranty of 24 months from the date of purchase. The device is developed and manufactured in Germany and is subject to strict quality standards. Frequently asked questions (FAQ) Does the handpiece need to break in? No. The 5040-SX2 has a brushless, maintenance-free motor – no break-in time is required, the unit is ready to use immediately. Which liquid may be used in the tank? Exclusively distilled water or a mixture with max. 30 % alcohol/ethanol. Tap water, tea tree oil or other additives damage the micro-pump and nozzle and lead to loss of warranty. Why does the unit release water on its own? This is the automatic nozzle cleaning (pump boost) – it starts automatically after a short break without spray and after longer inactivity. This is normal and not a fault. What does the OVERLOAD indicator mean? The handpiece is blocked or overloaded – after approx. 5 seconds the motor and pump switch off automatically. Fix the cause (e.g. check the bit) and restart the unit. How do I use the memory slots? A long press saves the current speed and spray intensity to one of the 4 memory slots, a short press recalls the setting – handy for recurring treatment steps. Which bits fit the 5040-SX2? Grinding bits in dental size ø 2.332–2.350 mm – observe the product-specific head-Ø speed limits from the operating manual. For disinfecting the bits, the Promed UC-50 ultrasonic cleaner (art. 330210) is recommended. What sets the 5040-SX2 apart from the 4030-SX2 and the 4040? The 4030-SX2 (art. 204036) and the 4040 (art. 204040) work in dry technology with dust extraction. The 5040-SX2 is the wet-technology variant with spray function and a 410 ml water tank – ideal if you want to cool and work with a fine spray mist instead of extraction. What warranty does Promed offer on the 5040-SX2? Promed grants a manufacturer's warranty of 24 months from the date of purchase. All Promed devices are developed to strict quality standards and tested before delivery. Damage caused by tap water, tea tree oil or impermissible additives in the tank is not covered by the warranty.
