Product information "Promed EMT-6"

Promed EMT-6 – the digital combination device for TENS pain relief and EMS muscle stimulation

The Promed EMT-6 is a 2-channel combination device for pain and muscle treatment. It offers 6 preset TENS programmes for pain relief, 5 EMS programmes for muscle stimulation and rehabilitation, 4 freely programmable user programmes and an integrated usage memory. It is operated via two side-mounted intensity rotary controls, one per channel. Available on prescription from a doctor (reimbursement possible with a medical indication) – ideal for home use.

Your benefits at a glance

  • TENS & EMS in one device: 6 preset TENS programmes, 5 EMS programmes plus 4 freely programmable user programmes.
  • Two-channel technology: Treats two body regions at once or at different intensities.
  • Side rotary controls: Intensity adjustable per channel directly on the device.
  • Usage memory: Treatment time readable at any time.
  • Bi-phasic rectangular pulse: Safe and gentle on the skin.
  • Three operating modes: Continuous, Burst and Modulation – for different therapy approaches.
  • Available on prescription from a doctor: Reimbursement possible with a medical indication.
  • Compact & portable: 118 × 62 × 25 mm, just 104 g (133 g with batteries) – ideal for on the go.
  • Complete set: 4 self-adhesive 40×40 mm electrodes, cables, batteries and storage case included.

Areas of use – which complaints can the EMT-6 help with?

The Promed EMT-6 combines TENS for symptomatic pain relief with EMS for muscle stimulation:

  • Joint and muscle pain: Myalgia, sciatica.
  • Back and neck pain: Gentle, drug-free pain relief.
  • Muscle tension: Relaxation of muscle spasms.
  • Promoting blood circulation: through muscle stimulation.
  • Muscle rehabilitation: EMS programmes for targeted stimulation, among other things to help prevent disuse atrophy.

How easy it is to use

  1. Step 1 – Preparation: Clean the treatment area of skin oils and cream residue with a cotton pad and a little isopropanol.
  2. Step 2 – Place the electrodes: Peel off the protective film and apply the self-adhesive electrodes directly at the pain point (TENS) or on the muscle (EMS).
  3. Step 3 – Select a programme: Choose one of the preset TENS or EMS programmes or recall your own programme from the memory. Set a treatment time of 1–60 minutes.
  4. Step 4 – Treat: Increase the intensity slowly until the stimulation is comfortably noticeable. After treatment, carefully peel off the electrodes and stick them back onto the protective film.

Care and safety information

Please read the instructions for use carefully before first use.

  • Never rinse the electrodes under running water – this damages the hydrogel. If the adhesion weakens, a single drop of water is enough to refresh it.
  • After each use, stick the electrodes back onto the protective film and store them cool in the storage case.
  • Do not place the electrodes over wounds, inflammation or irritated skin.
  • Do not use in the area of the heart, larynx, eyes or over metal implants.
  • Wearers of pacemakers or other electrical implants may only use TENS/EMS devices after consulting a doctor.
  • In the case of pregnancy, epilepsy or unexplained pain, consult a doctor before use.
  • With sensitive skin, carry out a skin-tolerance test on a small area before first use.
  • Application in the face, neck or head area only after consulting a doctor.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between TENS and EMS?

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a non-invasive, drug-free method for pain relief. The device sends gentle electrical impulses through the skin that mask the pain signal to the brain. EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) triggers direct muscle contractions – ideal for building up, rehabilitating and relaxing muscles.

Is the EMT-6 available on prescription from a doctor?

Yes. With a medical indication, the Promed EMT-6 is available on prescription from a doctor. With a corresponding prescription, reimbursement may be possible. Speak to your doctor about it – particularly in the case of chronic pain, muscle weakness or a need for rehabilitation.

Which replacement electrodes fit?

The scope of delivery includes 4 self-adhesive 40×40 mm electrodes. As replacements and for other applications, we recommend from the Promed range: fabric electrodes 40×40 mm (Art. 359170), fabric electrodes 32 mm Ø round (Art. 359177) for precise, targeted application, or larger 45×45 mm (Art. 359171) or 45×80 mm (Art. 359178) for larger treatment areas. If the adhesion weakens, the Promed Tensive contact gel helps.

Can I also use the EMT-6 for sport?

Yes. The EMS programmes can be used specifically for muscle building and for relaxing tense muscles – ideal after training or to support rehabilitation following injuries. Important: do not use on wounds or irritated skin.

Which intensity should I choose?

Always start with low intensity and increase it slowly until the stimulation is distinct but comfortable. With TENS you should feel a tingling sensation; with EMS a noticeable muscle contraction. Pain or discomfort is not the goal – if it occurs, reduce the intensity.

What are the most important contraindications?

TENS/EMS devices must not be used in the case of: a pacemaker or other electrical implants (without consulting a doctor), during pregnancy, with epilepsy, over metal implants, in the area of the heart, neck or eyes, on open wounds, or with unexplained pain. If in doubt, always consult a doctor.

Which Promed devices are available as alternatives to the EMT-6?

Promed offers further devices in the electrotherapy family for different needs: the EMT-4 (compact TENS/EMS combination device with button operation, 11 + 2 programmes), the TENS-1000s (pure analogue TENS device for pain relief) and the IT-6 (incontinence/pelvic-floor electrotherapy device with probe). The EMT-6 is the balanced TENS/EMS combination solution.
